Rail Alignment System:

Model 4000 Rail Alignment System components

System and Operation:

The 4000 Railway Alignment System consists of a cart mounted laser and a receiving assembly mounted on the front of the tamper's normal aligning chord. The receiving assembly consists of a sensor, servo-platform, light bar, and control panel. When the system is set up, the laser cart is positioned up to 600m ahead of the tamper. The laser is manually aligned to the sensor establishing an accurate chord reference.

When the receiving assembly is switched to "automatic", the sensor locks on to the laser as the servo-platform positions the front point of the aligning chord on the laser's beam reference. The tamper then begins aligning the track moving towards the laser. The front point of the alignment chord is held within 6mm accuracy to the laser's beam. This accuracy is further enhanced through the correction ratio of the machine.

Technical Breakthrough:

Significant technological breakthroughs give Model 4000 Railway Alignment System unmatched characteristics of accuracy, range of effectiveness and speed of set-up aligning railroad track. Designed to greatly augment railroad tamper lining systems, the Model 4000 Railway Alignment laser increases the tamper lining chord to 600m under normal conditions. The Model 4000 Railway Alignment laser does this with greater accuracy than ever before possible.

Outstanding Advantages of the Model 4000 Railway Alignment System:

Aligns kilometers of tangent track with one pass
Eliminates long swings and other line imperfections
Is easy to set-up and use
Adapts to any tamper system
Restores or changes track centers
Aligns to surveyor stakes
Lengthens gradual approach to fixed objects ( bridge, crossing, switches, etc. )
Align away from fixed objects.
Allows track to be replaced in straight line between two fixed objects .

Model 4000 Railway Alignment System - Extends Lining Chord for greater accuracy

The Laser:

The laser's beam is highly visible and accurate up to 600m. The laser beam is reliable and constant with no modulation. For initial rough alignment to the Light Bar the Laser is equipped with a standard rifle telescope. Fine adjustment differential screws for horizontal and vertical alignment speed the set-up process.

The laser is hermetically sealed in a thick, double wall aluminium tube for maximum durability, dependability and freedom from the effects of moisture and dust.

The Sensor:

The photo electric cells of the Model 4000 Sensor are mounted in silicone rubber within a rugged, cast aluminium case which is, in turn, shock mounted to the front buggy. The Sensor is fully effective within the 600m range of the laser and accurate to 6mm in this range. The Sensor's electronic system averages beam bounce for further accuracy. The Sensor has a vandal resistant cover.

The Light Bar:

Bright, high intensity automotive lamps are used for the Light Bar because of their high visibility at long range and ready replacement from any automotive store. Quick disconnects are provided and limit lights indicate the 150mm maximum throw of track, right or left.

The Control Panel:

The ruggedly constructed Control Panel provides for stand-by, automatic and off switching for the front buggy mounted Sensor and Light Bar. The Control Panel adapts to any tamper system voltage ( 150v AC, 127v AC, 24v AC, 12v DC)
